Peter's Railway Album
I was living in Withington for a short period in 1968 and on fine mornings would walk into the University, passing the former Fallowfield station on the way. The coal sidings at Fallowfield were still operational in 1968, so one morning I took my camera with me and got some shots of Black 5 45190 shunting the coal wagons on 21 March 1968

Peter, Congratulations on two fine (and unusual) shots of the Black 5 at Fallowfield. I have a life-long interest in this railway and would appreciate the chance to buy a copy of each of the two shots. As a matter of interest I have written an article for Steam Days magazine about the Fallowfield Line - it's in the current (February) issue. If you by any chance have the aritcle already please accept my apologies for the number of errors that appear. The magazine editors took the liberty of heavily editing my text and captions. this is not the CLC line. This is the LNW deviation line through Widnes South station. The lines to the right are the original Garston-Widnes lines of 1846 (later extended to Warrington) and sidings and the throat of Hutchinson St goods yard ( the cabins in the foreground are the shunters cabins).

Loved the Newton Heath pics, back in the early Sixties after school (St Malachys, Collyhurst) me and my mates used to get the train up from Miles Platting and do a bit of waterd down spotting - we were only interested in Jubs,Semis (were they the C ity of ... engines?) and Brits. I would have killed to see Brittania when I was 10! Looking back now I am amazed how a bunch of snotty nosed scruffs like us were allowed to walk all around the sheds.

Lovely to see this photo. I used to visit my aunty's house (visible left background) in the 1950s and 60s and used to slope off to Carleton Crossing to watch the excursion traffic into Blackpool. The move then was, in the afternoon, to make an excuse to get the bus into Blackpool town centre and bunk Central Sheds to see what had arrived on the other line. Happy days! http://michaeljcollins.fotopic.net

This image was taken when steam locos were still at work, just, in the north west. Back in 1967 Blackpool to London services were mostly diesel hauled as far as Crewe. Class 47 D1542 was stabled at Blackpool North MPD on Christmas Eve 1967, still wearing the original two tone green livery designed for these locos when they first entered service, but in this case an all yellow end has been applied. With the closure of Blackpool Central and its associated MPD in 1964, Blackpool North became more important as all main line services began to be concentrated there

nice classic photo

The 1110 class comprised 30 locos built between 1956 and 1961 with the Co-Co wheel arrangement. All were rebuilt and renumbered in the 1110-500 series in the 1970s. 1110-502 was at Jenbach on a westbound freight on 22 August 1978

You can find me at Derailed@fotopic.net. Not all of the 1110's were renumbered in the 70's. I have 1110.03 taken at Kirchberg in 1980
